MONKS OF DOOM BIOGRAPHYAfter Camper Van Beethoven disbanded two groups emerged. The better known Cracker and this band, Monks Of Doom. The two bands, while similar, both combined the quirky, offbeat elements of Camper Van Beethoven but with a more straightforward rock and roll approach.
![]() Monks Of Doom began as a side project for three members of CVB: Greg Lisher, Victor Krummenacher and Chris Pedersen. When Camper Van Beethoven split up in 1990, the Monks became a full-time act. They added David Immergluck (formerly of Ophelias). They recorded their first album, the soundtrack to Breakfast On The Beach Of Deception. Their more progressive, less folksy sound with its clever, almost experimental sound reminded some of early Zappa or even The Residents. They even covered Zappa's "Who Are The Brain Police?" on a later release. Like their predescessor, Monks were never a band to be pigeon-holed. Among other efforts
they did a concept album -- a rock opera based on Edward Gorey's The Insect God. Monks Of
Doom, while an acquired taste, are quite enjoyable, even if they are more
"progressive" than their "root band" CVB.
