Karel Fialka was born in Bengal, India to a Scottish father and Czechoslavakian mother. After returning to the United Kingdom, Karel started performing on stage and as a street performer. The changes impacting pop music in his native UK in the late 70s fit well with this poet/street artist so in addition to his poetry and acting, he started venturing into music as well. In 1980 he had a minor electronic hit entitled "Eyes Have It" which has been featured on many new wave and electronica collections. The follow up full-length LP, Still Life, didn't fare as well and it was almost eight years before his next record, though he was an active songwriter during that time and numerous artists have covered his songs.
Karel Fialka's debut LP, released in 1980 on Pye Records. 1988 brought Karel his biggest hit ever, the catchy "Hey Matthew" on IRS. The follow up album HUMAN ANIMAL contained more of the same quirky glimpses of life from Mr. Fialka's unique point of view. Karel is still recording and doing session work for other bands and artists and has been at work on his third album for some time.
